African American Passover Celebration was written by Rev. Dr. Nicholas Hood III as a Maundy Thursday worship liturgy for the church he serves as pastor, the Plymouth United Church of Christ in Detroit. First written in 1993, it has become a tradition, not only at the Plymouth UCC in Detroit, but in several churches throughout America. This book includes beautiful photographs taken by the author and is created for both individual home use, but also well suited for worship experiences.
African American Passover Celebration is based on a traditional Jewish Seder, with African American influences. For example, traditional Jewish Passover meals include shank of lamb. The African American Passover Celebration substitutes lamb for chicken. Instead of matzah bread, the African American Passover Celebration uses cornbread.
Readers will find this book to be a contemporary adaptation of a traditional Jewish Seder meal, but also spiritually enriching.
