Biography of Seminar Faculty:

1. Jacqueline E. Ross is a Professor of Law at the University of Illinois College of Law. A respected scholar in the fields of evidence and criminal law and procedure, Professor Ross is currently engaged in a compressive study of undercover policing in the United States, Italy, Germany, and France. She has also received a Fulbright Fellowship to compare how French and American police use local security partnerships as sources of intelligence. Professor Ross, a former federal prosecutor, has published on numerous criminal law topics in both American and European journals, including the University of Chicago Law Review, the American Journal of Comparative Law, the Oxford Journal of Legal Studies, the Annual Review of Law and the Social Sciences, and several Italian journals. Her cutting edge work has received numerous awards, including the Edward Wise Senior Scholar Prize from the American Society of Comparative Law and the University of Illinois College of Law’s Carroll P. Hurd Award for Excellence in Faculty Scholarship. She has previously served on the facilities at Columbia Law School and NYU School of Law. Prof. Ross is a graduate of the University of Chicago Law School and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Douglas H. Ginsburg, U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

2. Steve Meister is a veteran criminal trial lawyer with 18 years of experience trying serious state and federal felony cases, including homicides, sexual assaults, sex offender registration, arson, conspiracy, gang cases, robberies, firearms offenses, narcotics, Internet crimes, immigration crimes, fraud and copyright infringement. Mr. Meister's clients have included high-profile political officials in corruption investigations, professional and college athletes, and entertainment figures. A former prosecutor, Steve Meister is also an expert DUI and DMV lawyer, winning many cases before the Department of Motor Vehicles and saving clients’ driver’s licenses from revocation or suspension. Mr. Meister has served as a legal analyst television and radio news stations, and is frequently quoted by national publications for his views on criminal cases. His public works on criminal defense and DUI include “Innocent Until Proven Guilty,” “Closing Argument” and “When Nothing is Shocking.”

3. Michael Kessler is a Board Certified Criminal Trial Lawyer, a leading authority on DUI Defense and a member of the National College for DUI Defense, has practiced criminal law for over 25 years. He is a founding member of the Saint Lucie County Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and co-author of The DUI Book: Florida Edition, the definitive resource on DUI in Florida. Mr. Kessler has extensive experience on DUI, drug possession, drug sales (including marijuana, cocaine, meth, and others), domestic violence, bar fights, sex crimes, pornography, and murder. He has been selected as a SuperLawyer, has consistently earned AVVO’s “10.0 – Superb” rating, and is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell. Mr. Kessler has is a widely sought after lecturer, having spoken across the country on "Strategies and Tactics for Defending DUI Cases," Basic DUI Defense for Young Lawyers," "How to Demonstrate What's Wrong with the Intoxylizer 8000," "Closing Arguments in DUI Cases," "DUI Defense for Public Defenders." Mr. Kessler holds a law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law.
