Biography of Seminar Faculty:

1. David Markowitz is one of the most sought after trial lawyers in the country. He is recognized in The Best Lawyers in America, honored as Portland's 2010 “Bet-the-Company" Litigator of the Year, is a fellow and former chair of the American College of Trial Lawyers, is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, and has been listed as one of the Top Ten Oregon Litigators by the National Law Journal and Oregon Super Lawyers. He is recognized by Chambers USA as one of the top commercial litigators in Oregon and is one of few litigators ranked nationally. Mr. Markowitz is included in Lawdragon's 500 Leading Litigators in America and 500 Leading Plaintiffs' Lawyers in America. His commanding presence and keen instincts have made him a courtroom icon as he has represented countless victims to significant settlements and judgments. Over the last two decades, he has led Markowitz Herbold Glade & Mehlhaf from its beginning as an ambitious two-attorney litigation shop to its present status as one of the premier business litigation firms in the region. Mr. Markowitz is a graduate of the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law.

2. Paul J. Scoptur is a nationally distinguished trial attorney with over 25 years of experience. He is on the Board of Directors of his state’s Association for Justice and is a trustee and co-chair of the National College of Advocacy Board of Trustees. Mr. Scoptur has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law, teaching litigation and trial skills. He has been named one of the Best Lawyers In America continuously since 2002 and is one of state’s top 50 “Super Lawyers” for personal injury. He has been recognized as a Diplomate of the National College of Advocacy and he was the first lawyer to complete the Advanced Studies in Trial Advocacy curriculum offered by the National College of Advocacy. Mr. Scoptur is also a member of the American Society of Trial Consultants. He has a broad practice both as a trial lawyer and as a trial strategist and uses critical thinking, strategic case planning and focus groups extensively, both in his cases and in assisting other lawyers in preparing the discovery and trial of their cases across the country and in Canada. Cases he has worked on exceed $100,000,000 in recovery. He has published widely on depositions, discovery, and litigation.
