Biography of Seminar Faculty:

1. Lisa Rothfarb is an attorney with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in the Bureau of Consumer Protection’s Division of Financial Practices. Ms. Rothfarb works on numerous law enforcement matters to protect consumers in the financial services arena, such as consumer debt collection, fair lending, mortgage servicing, mortgage assistance relief services, and debt relief services. Prior to joining the FTC, she clerked at the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the American University Washington College of Law.

2. Mark Leon Vavreck is a partner at Martineau, Gonko, & Vavreck, where he concentrates on consumer law, civil litigation. Mr. Vavreck protects consumers from illegal debt collection activities. In fact, he filed over 130 lawsuits last year on behalf of both individual consumers and class actions to protection consumers against abusive debt collection as well as to hold creditors and credit reporting agencies liable for negative inaccurate credit reporting. He has served as an adjunct professor or law as well as the Chair of the Debtor/Creditor Section of his bar association. Mr. Vavreck is a highly sought-after lecturer on consumer debt and consumer rights.

3. Leonard A. Bennett has nearly two decades of experience as a consumer advocate and trial lawyer. He has litigated individual and class cases throughout the country, trying among the highest number of credit reporting cases to a jury as any other trial lawyer nationally. Mr. Bennett serves on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Consumer Advocates and has been invited to speak at numerous conferences for the Navy, Army JAG, Federal Trade Commission, and law schools across the country. He has been upon to testify multiple times before the United States House Committee on Financial Services, as well as having been quoted by the New York Times, the USA Today, and the Washington Post, amongst others. He has received numerous professional awards including, including recognition as a SuperLawyer and selection in Law Dragon’s National Top 500 Plaintiff’s Attorneys.
