Biography of Seminar Faculty:

1. Miriam Claire Beezy is a Partner at Foley & Lardner LLP and the former chair of the firm’s Trademark, Copyright & Advertising Practice. Her intellectual property experience includes developing and managing global company IP portfolios and policies; trademark and copyright prosecution; domain name registration; advertising, merchandising and brand management counseling; USPTO and domain name proceedings, including proceedings to enforce trademarks and copyrights. Ms. Beezy served as chief trademark counsel of The Walt Disney Company, where she managed the corporation’s worldwide trademark portfolio, including obtaining, licensing and enforcing Disney’s trademark rights around the world. She has protected the intellectual property of many start-ups as well, and was selected as a candidate by the International Trademark Association to serve on the original board of directors of ICANN, the organization that develops rules and policies for Internet domain names. Ms. Beezy has spoken extensively on copyrights, co-branding agreements, using reality television to showcase products, brand management, obtaining regulatory approval, and advertising law.

2. Joshua M. Dalton is a Partner at Bingham, where he concentrates his practice in intellectual property. He has extensive pre-trial, trial and appellate experience in intellectual property litigation, representing a wide variety of clients in patent, copyright, trademark, trade dress, false advertising and trade secret matters. He has also handled numerous matters involving enforcement of non-competition, non-solicitation and non-disclosure agreements for both employers and employees, as well as general commercial litigation. Mr. Dalton has appeared in courts throughout the United States as well as before the Trademark Office and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. He provides strategic counseling to clients concerning intellectual property development, protection and licensing. Mr. Dalton's IP clients have included the Boston Red Sox, Boston Scientific, ConAgra Foods, Lifetime Entertainment Services, BOX Options Exchange, Nissan, Anheuser-Busch, Jenzabar, Inc., Xenith Helmets, FLEXcon Company, Le Vian Jewelry and Gryphon Networks. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School.

3. Manny Pokotilow is a Partner at the Firm of Caesar, Rivise, Bernstein, Cohen & Pokotilow. He is recognized as one of the leading Intellectual Property lawyers in the country. For more than 40 years, his practice has consisted of all aspects of Intellectual Property law, particularly litigation, involving the enforcement of patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets. Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Mr. Pokotilow devotes a substantial portion of his practice to consultation in patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret and computer matters, and in the registration of trademarks. He has been lead Intellectual Property counsel in numerous landmark cases involving patents, trademarks and copyrights, including Donsco Inc. v. Casper Corp; Apple Computer v. Franklin Computer; and Wawa, Inc. v. HaHa. A past chairman of the American Bar Association's Proprietary Rights in Software Committee of the Computer Law Division of the Section of Science and Technology, he has been recognized with numerous awards for excellence in intellectual property and patent litigation practice.
