Biography of Seminar Faculty:

1. andré douglas pond cummings is a Professor of Law at West Virginia University College of Law and a leading expert on sports law. Professor cummings has published nearly 25 law review articles and book chapters as well as two complete books on topics including sports law, performance enhancing drugs, the impact of Hip Hop on criminal justice, NCAA policies, and sports mascots. He has presented at over 100 conferences and meetings, including for the NFL Players Associations, on topics ranging from legal issues in athletic coaching to “So You Want to be a Sports Agent?” Prior to join WVU College of Law, Professor cummings practiced at Kirkland & Ellis and clerked for two federal judges.

2. Thomas M. Dunlap is a Partner at Dunlap, Grubb, and Weaver, where his practice focuses on entertainment law, intellectual property, and commercial litigation. He was recently named nationally as one of the “Top 100 Power Lawyers in Entertainment” by the Hollywood Reporter for his representation of a number of film studios and artists in copyright and related litigation. Mr. Dunlap has been rated as a “SuperLawyer” by his peers. He is a widely sought after author and lecturer on legal issues including intellectual property to electronic signature laws.

3. Lawrence M. Kaye is a Partner at Herrick, where he serves as the Co-Chair of the firm's Art Law Group. He is noted internationally for his representation of foreign governments, victims of the Holocaust, families of renowned artists and other claimants in connection with the recovery of art and antiquities. Mr. Kaye was a lead attorney in the landmark case of Federal Republic of Germany v. Elicofon, in which two early masterpieces by Albrecht Durer, stolen at the end of the Second World War, were recovered and returned to the Weimar Art Museum. He represented the Republic of Turkey in its successful efforts to recover the fabled Lydian Hoard antiquities, long held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and some 1,800 ancient Greek and Lycian coins which Connoisseur Magazine called "The Hoard of the Century." Mr. Kaye successfully represented the heirs of the Russian artist, Kazimir Severinovich Malevich, in connection with their claims against New York's Museum of Modern Art, Harvard University's Busch-Reisinger Museum, and the City of Amsterdam's Stedelijk Museum. He presently represents many museums, collectors and foreign governments in connection with a variety of cultural property matters. Mr. Kaye served as the Legal Advisor to the Republic of Turkey's delegation to the Diplomatic Conference held in Rome in June 1995, at which the UNIDROIT Convention on the International Return of Stolen or Illegally Exported Cultural Objects was adopted. He writes and lectures extensively on international art litigation and the repatriation of cultural property. He has spoken widely, including at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature in Moscow, the United Kingdom Institute for Conservation, Lloyd's of London Press, Columbia University, Brown University, University of Pennsylvania, NYU, Princeton, and Harvard Law School, among others.
