Biography of Seminar Faculty:

1. Jacob Stein is one of the nation's leading experts on taxation, international business transactions, and asset protection. He is a Certified Tax Law Specialist and AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Stein is the author of numerous articles on business law, asset protection and tax planning, and is the author of Asset Protection Planning (Education Foundation, 2007), currently in its 5th edition, and Advanced Tax Planning Techniques (Education Foundation, 2007). Mr. Stein's article Building Stumbling Blocks: A Practical Take on Charging Orders appeared in the October 2006 issue of RIA's Business Entities Magazine and is considered the seminal article on the topic of LLC charging orders. His article on Advanced Asset Protection and Tax Planning is considered the staple in effective planning with LLCs. Mr. Stein has taught thousands of attorneys nationally on cross-border transactions, the most effective strategies of protecting assets and advanced tax planning. He has served as an adjunct professor of taxation and has spoken at numerous before bar and CPA associations. Mr. Stein holds an LL.M. in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center.

2. Hans Sperling has represented businesses ranging from the corner restaurant to some of the world’s largest banks in a broad range of international and U.S. business transactions. He has advised clients in such diverse industries as transportation, energy, finance, chemicals, hotel, restaurant, media, high-tech materials, software and independent film. Mr. Sperling has represented clients in M&A and joint-venture transactions, single-lender and syndicated loans and intellectual property and commercial transactions. He has advised companies on general corporate matters, long-term charters of Liquefied Natural Gas tankers, shipbuilding contracts and competitive public bidding procedures. Hans has extensive experience with international business transactions with a particular emphasis on Japan, but also involving businesses elsewhere in Asia, in Europe and in the Middle East. Prior to his career in law, Mr. Sperling worked at the Environment Directorate of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris on the implementation of a major multilateral treaty.
