(Allium cepa) Perennial multiplier. Winner! By far the largest multiplier onions I've ever grown -- some of these are the size of softballs. Five bulbs yielded a staggering 55 onions in my garden -- and every one of them was larger than any other multiplier I've ever grown. Once you have these onions, you never have to buy them again -- they multiply each year. This amazing onion was developed over a decade by the wonderful Kelly Winterton. This is a must-have onion for families looking to be self-sufficient. To turn these seeds into bulbs, plant them in early spring in a greenhouse and move them outside as soon as the soil can be worked, or plant the seed outside as soon as the soil can be worked. At the end of summer, after the onions have died back, choose the largest bulbs for multiplying. I plant the bulbs in the fall (late Sept. or early Oct.) and cover them with a cold frame. This method grows the largest onions, but you can also choose your largest bulbs in the fall, harvest them, store overwinter, and then plant in spring. Because this is landrace seed, you will get onions that are green, red, yellow and white. Once you have bulbs to grow out, they will come true to color. Always keep your largest bulbs for multiplying the next season. Onion seed generally has a life of 1-2 years, so plant these seeds within one year. Please note: about 60 seeds per pack.
