Tomato, Good Keeper

SKU: $1.80

Keeps past Christmas! The photo is our Good Keeper tomatoes on Dec.21, in the snow, fresh and firm and flavorful! Fat red, round, 70 days, indeterminate, meaty, never watery, top notch long-keeper! Can be picked red, or green at season's end to slowly ripen. We pull the whole plant by the root before last frost and hang them in an unheated shed and they slowly and indeterminately ripen past Christmas, and most importantly, taste fresh and bright and meaty and not mealy. We have tested a lot of "long keeper" tomato varieties over the years and this one wins hands down. We should call them "Best Keeper Tomatoes!" 12 heirloom seeds per pack. 100% natural, grown without chemicals. Annual. Free shipping on orders over $32.

NUTRITION INFO:

Tomatoes provide potassium (10%DV), dietary fiber (4%DV), vitamin A (40%DV), vitamin C (20%DV), calcium (2%DV) and iron (4%DV).

HOW TO GROW: Plant seeds indoors or in a greenhouse in March, or 8-10 weeks before your last frost date. Plant quarter-inch deep and keep moist until germination. Seedlings must have direct, full sunlight. Plants cannot be exposed to freezing temperatures. Harvest the tomatoes as they turn red and slightly soft to the touch. Start indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost. Transplant outside after all danger of frost. Tomatoes begin to grow heavily in hot weather, but do not produce fruit in temperatures above 95 degrees. Amish Paste tomatoes are medium to large in size and determinate, which means they will heavily set fruit in a short window, instead of setting fruit randomly through the season. Determinate cultivars like Amish Paste are preferred for canning and freezing because the crop comes on at basically the same time. Tomatoes may be pruned if you wish fewer fruits that are larger, but I don't prune my plants because I'm happy to have more tomatoes that are slightly smaller. Tomatoes tend to crack easily when overwatered. Make sure you reduce watering when tomatoes begin to ripen. Amish Paste tomatoes are about 20 percent larger than Roma tomatoes but set about 30 percent fewer tomatoes.
