Antique 1875 Long Nose Alex Patrick Approach Putter

ALEX PATRICK LONG NOSE APPROACH PUTTER Circa 1875. Alex Patrick was born in 1845 in Leven, Scotland. His Father John was a Clubmaker and went into business for himself two years before Alex was born. At the age of 12 Alex was already working with his Father at their clubmaking business and after his Father died in 1866 Alex took over the family business. His talents extended from a proficient clubmaker to Hand Hammered Ball Making, & Greenskeeper as well. This wonderful piece of Golfing history was owned by Joe Kirkwood who was best known as the most famous trick shot expert who traveled the world with then number one player in the world, Walter Hagen. Kirkwood and Hagen toured around the globe giving exhibitions from Australia, Europe, the US, to Japan. This is one of the many special and odd clubs Joe used to carry with him in a very large custom made staff bag, a real attention getter. At 42” in length and approx. 10 degrees loft, this approach putter was used from just off the green as a run up type shot similar to todays pros using a hybrid. The head is 5 ½” long, 1 ½” wide, and 1 ¼” deep. Stamped on the crown “A PATRICK” The original grip is still in tact and the shaft is surprisingly straight and very flexible. A great collectible. $3250.
