1919, France, World War I. GLOIRE AU LIBERATEUR EXPOSITION NATIONALE, STRASBOURG. By Henry Nocq (1869-1944). Bronze plaquette 66mm x 97mm. $175. ---------- Henry (Henri-Eugène) Nocq was born in Saint-Mandé (Val-de-Marne) in 1869. He studied under the sculptor, Henri-Michel-Antoine Chapu. Starting in 1887 he exhibited at the Salon of the Société des Artistes Français. He won a silver medal at the Universal Exhibition in 1900. In 1907 he was made a Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur. He was interested in and wrote about art theory. Nocq created medals, plaquettes, sculpture and many artistically designed everyday objects. He died in 1944.
