This book is a two-part study manual: a self-study plan for the deacon where no formal instruction is provided otherwise, and a pastor-directed program which the pastor will find easy to present. The author believes that when pastor and people disregard the need to have trained deacons, the office is allowed to recede into one of mere honor rather that service established in Christ.
