D-Limonene serves as a natural insect repellent. Tea Tree: Tea trees grow in Australia and Asia. Historically, the leaves were used as a substitute for tea, which is how it got its name. The part used medicinally is the oil from the leaves. Tea tree has a long history of traditional use. Australian aboriginals used tea tree leaves for healing cuts and infections of the skin by crushing the leaves and applying them to the affected area. The oil contains terpenoids, which kill fungus and bacteria. Ylang-ylang: Ylang ylang, cananga odorata, is the flower of the cananga tree. The tree attains an average height of 40 feet, grows in full or partial sun, and prefers the acidic soils of its native rainforest habitat. The leaves are long, smooth and glossy. The flower is greenish yellow or pink, curly like a starfish, and yields a highly fragrant essential oil. Ylang-ylang essential oil is used in aromatherapy. It is believed to relieve high blood pressure, normalize sebum secretion for skin problems, and is considered to be an aphrodisiac.
