Course 003 Providing Counseling Services to Police Officers and Their Families

Course Overview: This course will explore the history of police psychology, police occupational stressors and how it impacts the family as a system, as well as treatment considerations. Course structure will consist of lecture and exercises. Presenter: Deborah C. Moore, Ph.D., LMFT, is an educator, clinician, and researcher. Dr. Moore’s areas of research include: self-influenced neuroplasticity, psychoneuroimmunology, and the neurobiology of mental health disorders. She uses brain-behavior based techniques such as neurofeedback and biofeedback in conjunction with a systemic approach to assist individual, couples, and families. Dr. Moore has been featured on radio discussing police stress, suicide, and mental health. She is the author of two books: “The Mindfulness Response: Inner Happiness Every Day,” and “Who Helps the Helper: Proven Stress Management Techniques for Law Enforcement Officers.” She also has dual adjunct professorship in the department of psychology and department of marriage and family therapy. A retired lieutenant from the New York City Police Department, Deborah maintains a practice in two locations: New York City and the lower Hudson Valley, NY.
