In this follow-up to 1999's successful El Ministerio Profetico Y Musica, El Poder De Pentecostes offers an album that smashes its predecessor in content and reach, while also sprinkling in a handful of extraneous elements. This CD is simply gorgeous, boosted by fine songs, superlative ensemble work and an irresistible exuberance that results in part from the fact that the musical base of the album—bass (Tommy Brown), drums (Ray Murray), and piano (Byron Williams) — was recorded live as a group. The songs are joyful, punctuated by Byron Williams' minor-key piano riffs and Latin sensation singer Christie Sanchez ("El Poder De Pentecostes"). Within this framework, El Poder De Pentecostes goes from the pop of track 2 ("Espiritu Santo") to smooth balladry of track 3 ("Jesus Eres Mi Deseo"), to cumbia ("Este Corito Es") based on call and response by well-known songwriter/vocalist Jeffrey Aguilar to the more traditional "Senor Mi Primer Amor," performed by the incredible Latin singer John Montes.
