*[Editor] The most popular over-the-counter treatment is 320mg of saw palmetto daily. Although one study showed dramatic improvement with their select Saw Palmetto product, and others speak to the benefit of 120mg of stinging nettles, neither offers expected side-effects even if they are proven less than effective.
A few patients have reported significant drops in PSA and improved urine flow with the over-the-counter product, Pectasol-C. I await further substantiation.

Natural Treatment of BPH with Iodine Supplementation is reported by my colleague, David Brownstein, M.D., as an effective alternative to medication for some individuals. When taking iodine/iodide, it is important to balance with selenium 200mg. The literature reports these herbal products may offer some beneficial relief: Herbal remedies such as Cernilton, Saxifraga stolonifera, Zi-Shen Pill (ZSP), Orbignya speciosa, Phellodendron amurense, Ganoderma lucidum, Serenoa Repens, pumpkin extract and Lepidium meyenii (Red Maca).

*[Editor] The use of PD5 inhibitors such as sildenafil 20mg generic daily to improve urinary flow in BPH is an interesting use of the Viagra-type medications. More importantly is the use of SARI finasteride with alpha(1)ARA doxazosin which was "significantly more effective than either component alone in reducing BPH-related symptoms."
