Yarrow Achillea millefolium Perennial. Yarrow is an herb used in tea and cough syrups for flu, sinus, colds, and asthma. Perennial. Stems, leaves and flowers are used medicinally. A reliable self-seeder, but does not spread vigorously, so you don't have to worry about it taking over. Yarrow is taken internally for fever, common cold, allergic rhinitis, amenorrhea, dysentery, diarrhea, loss of appetite, mild or spastic gastrointestinal (GI) tract discomfort, to induce sweating, and for thrombotic conditions with hypertension, including cerebral and coronary thromboses. The fresh leaves are chewed to relieve toothache. Externally, yarrow is used as a stypticl; for bleeding hemorrhoids; for wounds; and as a sitz bath for painful, lower pelvic, cramp-like conditions of psychosomatic origin in women. In combination with other herbs, yarrow is used for bloating, flatulence, mild gastrointestinal (GI) cramping, and nervous gastrointestinal complaints.In foods, the young leaves and flowers of yarrow are used in salads.
